SAN ANTONIO – Sunday, March 15, 2015, Carnalismo San Anto Brown Berets and others protested a bill which allows for racial profiling in Texas – one which is similar to SB 1070, in Arizona.
Republican state senator Charles Perry of Lubbock introduced SB 185. The bill would allow peace officers to ask anyone for documentation to prove their citizenship status. It would also allow the Attorney General to withhold state grand funds if municipalities forbid an officer from asking about someone’s status.
State Senator Donna Campbell of New Braunfels is co-sponsoring the bill.
We must put a stop to this “tongue-in-cheek” racial profiling legislation.
In December of 2014, “Big Rog” (Roger Rael) had notified Carnalismo Brown Berets HQ that he would murder Ricky Gonzales, National Spokesman of the Carnalismo Brown Berets and Prime Minister of New Mexico. Needless to say, the threats NEVER came to fruition. But as of this morning, “Big Rog,” took it upon himself to resurface, and continue his threats via text message:
As per our last conversation with Ollin Kin, Victor San Miguel, and Myself, it was agreed that Ollin Kin does not and will not represent the Carnalismo Brown Beret organization. it was also agreed with both parties that Ollin Kin would not recruit, represent, or speak for the Carnalismo Brown Beret Organization. The Carnalismo Brown Beret Organization will stay as we are with the American Indian Movement: which is a mutual respect on the field and in action. The Carnaliamo Brown Berets have come to the conclusion that we will work separately from Ollin Kin, this decision has been made on a national level and shall be respected by all chapters of the Carnalismo Brown Beret Organization and its affiliates.
Self Determination drives the Chicano/Afro activist.
To be able to fight aggressively for what you believe is Self Determination. An increased militarization of local police forces has lead to more police murders among Chicanos/Afros within the past several years. Many have witnessed police brutality in our own lives, either by getting hassled/beat by a cop or losing someone to police-inflected violence. The need to protect ourselves & our families in modern America has led to a reemergence of community-centered organizations like ours.
“You don’t fight racism with racism, the best way to fight racism is with solidarity.” -Bobby Seale
The Carnalismo Brown Berets have come together with the New Black Panther Party to address the issue of police violence in our community. It is our mission to ensure that the voice of the community is not silenced as we have vowed to be the vanguard of the people’s movement by any means necessary. By providing traffic control & crowd support during demonstrations, we are keeping the integrity of our cause and displaying an organized retaliation against the oppresive forces at hand.
There will be certain occasions where having Brown Berets & Black Panthers can make a demonstration safer and have more of an impact among demonstrators and the intended audience (news outlets, people passing by, etc.). We will take initiative in getting your action to meet its utmost potential; and if there’s police or anti-protesters, we will act as the buffer zone between them and your crowd.
As per Victor San Miguel, head of Carnalismo Brown Berets, he says, ” I have NO input to what Burns does…Burns does NOT stand with Carnalismo…”
It should also put put forth that Jon (Juanito) Burns is NOT welcome in El Paso, TX due to his negative interactions and harassment of the Tijerina family.
This statement comes as Jon (Juanito) Burns has attempted to re emerge as a Brown Beret, and once again deceive other Chicanos and other organizations over his validity as an activist. There exists to this day NO single individual who has caused more disruption in divisiveness than Jon Burns. (his newest self proclaimed nickname is “El Gitano.”)
Jon Burns has been evidently proven to instigate violence, sexual harassment, bullying, manipulations, slander, libel, and LIES, and this has been a continual issue, largely because those who align with him, ally with him, etc. From here on in, those who harbor Jon Burns will have their names associated with him, and with “Rape Culture,” as well as “Bullying,” both of which are large topics in todays political climate.
Below is a message Jon Burns recently sent a member of Carnalismo via facebook, in which he uses obscene sexual language to insult two members of Carnalismo, and another member of the National Brown Berets (NBB)
En El Movimiento, we are riddled and rife with so many ppl hung up on their own self aggrandizement – we continually have to address this susceptibility, and permeability in order to keep things honest. There is, however a certain phenomena where distinct bad actors continually try to amass own-ness or ownership of the Brown Beret persona. There are individuals who have distinctly sought to copywrite or trademark what we do. They thirst to own it. They are so hungry to own it, they are willing to pay the fees, and take the gabacho route to have “own-ness” over a cause, in an effort to own the Brown Beret persona. LETS BE CLEAR – ANYONE MAKING CLAIMS TO THIS, VIA THE GABACHO GOVERNMENT ARE STILL THEMSELVES FEEDING THE SAME MACHINATIONS THE BROWN BERETS HAVE HISTORICALLY SOUGHT TO CHALLENGE. In other words, your legitimacy continually envelopes toward your ILL-ligitimacy, and I for one am sorry that you squandered such expense to file through the gabacho system, compromise your physical addresses in doing so, and continuing to harass other Brown Berets. We will NOT allow “bad actors” en el movimiento – it simply won’t occur.
In our movement, we do encounter many others who prefer to fancy themselves by nickname, rather than their own name. We ought to be very alert with regard to those who insist by being identified by an alternative persona to the one who has grownt up and operated for so many years in the flesh and blood – and with paper trail to boot. It is with good measure and prudence to examine why some individuals have sought to self-identify with a moniker, rather than involving thier own personalities within El Movimiento. However, There is ALSO something to be said for those whose ONLY moniker is their own true personality – un coweled from monikers or self professed nicknames.
Nicknames offer a level of anonymity and detachment which is really concerning. For instance, in my long passed days, I knew many exotic dancers who had to assume their nicknames in order to compartmentalize how they operated from their working persona v.s. their familia persona.
So, for an initiative, for a movimiento, would it be healthy to compartmentalize? To hold a duplicituous personality? One should hope not.
One could call me “diddled-eyed joe,” or damned if I know, but the truth remains that hiding behind some self-imposed persona is NOT in keeping with being a Brown Beret. End of story.
Being a Brown Beret can be a very trying happenstance: First, we’re met immediately with this issue of legitimacy – many of the people who assigned themselves “owness” of the persona continually try to retain “own-ness” over the Brown Beret persona. In numerous respects, a lot of Brown Beret groups have left themselves open to infiltration.
With regard to the Carnalismo Brown Berets, there are some continual constants – we are consistent raza: We’re not rapacious, or hungry for numbers – we have NO need for stragglers. We do NOT give a please about those who have sought to craft a private army to do their own bidding. Those who do so are NOT Brown Berets, nor are they in keeping with anything that has anything to do with us-they are weak people, with nothing going for themselves. They are NOT shining stalwarts as Brown Berets – they are losers, left devoid of ANY accomplishments in their lives – they are losers.
